Vetted garages

How we vet garages

Every garage on Matchanic is vetted by our team before it can quote for your job. Here’s what we check, and what vetting doesn’t cover.

What we check

  1. ID

    The owner’s photo ID, their driving licence, checked against the application.

  2. Proof of trade

    Evidence that the garage is a working motor trade business.

  3. Insurance

    A current insurance certificate, checked for its dates and that it’s in the business’s name.

  4. Business and trading address

    Its Companies House record, or proof it trades as a sole trader, and a real trading address that matches the application.

  5. MOT test station

    For garages that do MOTs, their DVSA MOT test station number.

Before a garage can quote

A garage applies with the owner’s ID and its proof of trade. While its application is under review, we ask for the rest and check it. We approve a garage only once every check is done, and only approved garages can see jobs to quote for.

If we find a garage no longer meets our checks, or it breaks our terms of use, we can suspend it. A suspended garage can’t send new quotes.

Reviews from Matchanic customers

Drivers can review a garage after accepting its quote on Matchanic, so the reviews on a garage’s profile come from its Matchanic customers. Every quote links to the garage’s profile, so you can read them before you choose.

What vetting doesn’t cover

Vetting checks who is behind a garage, that it trades as a real business, and that its insurance was current when we checked. It doesn’t check the quality of its work, and it isn’t a guarantee. Qualifications a garage lists on its profile are its own, and we don’t check those.

The work, and any warranty on it, is between you and the garage. If something goes wrong, tell us through our contact page.
