Help for garages
How Matchanic works from the garage side: finding jobs, quoting, and what happens after.

Your application
What happens after I apply?
Someone at Matchanic checks each application by hand, then approves it or turns it down, so there’s no set time. We email you the decision, whatever your email settings.
What can I do while I wait?
Set up your profile. It’s public from the moment you apply, and drivers reach it from your quotes. You can also set your prices on Auto quotes. Your Dashboard, Find jobs, job pages and Calendar open once you’re approved.
What if I’m not approved?
If you think it’s a mistake, reply to the email we sent about your application and tell us why, or use our contact page. Your profile stays public, so anyone with its link can still open it, and you can still edit it on My profile.
Finding jobs
Where do jobs come from?
Drivers post them on Matchanic. A job has the work the driver wants, the car’s details if they gave them (looked up from DVLA and MOT records, or typed in), their postcode, and any notes.
Matchanic is launching in Surrey first. Which jobs reach you depends on how far the job’s postcode is from yours, not on the county, as the next answer explains.
Which jobs are on my Dashboard?
The Open jobs tab on your Dashboard lists open jobs you haven’t quoted on:
- jobs within your job radius of the postcode on your profile (10 miles if you haven’t set a radius)
- jobs with no postcode, or one we couldn’t place on the map
- jobs Matchanic assigns to you, whatever the distance (they’re also on the Assigned tab)
Until your profile has a postcode we can place on the map, Open jobs lists every open job.
What is Find jobs for?
Find jobs searches open jobs around any postcode you type, within the distance you choose, and can filter them by service and by make of car. Results show as a list and on a map. A search doesn’t change your saved postcode or radius, or what your Dashboard shows. Find jobs opens once your account is approved.
Can I hide a job I don’t want?
Yes. On the job’s page, choose Not interested and it’s hidden from your lists. To see it again, tick “Show … you marked not interested” under Open jobs or in your Find jobs results, open the job and choose Show it again. A job Matchanic assigned to you stays listed.
Quoting
How do I quote?
Open the job from your Dashboard or from Find jobs. On the job’s page, enter your price in pounds and a message for the driver, and list what the price includes if you like. You can save a message as a template to use again. You can quote once your account is approved, while your credit balance isn’t below £0.
What does the driver see?
Your quote shows your price, your message and what’s included, with your garage’s name and photo, a link to your public profile, and your star rating or “No reviews yet”.
It can also show:
- how far away you are, when both postcodes are known
- how many jobs you’ve won on Matchanic this month, or that you’re new
- your business type and specialities
- any discount you set
- “Entered by Matchanic on the garage’s behalf”, if we entered the quote for you
Can I change a quote?
Yes, until the driver accepts a quote. On the job’s page, choose Edit quote to change the price, the message or what’s included. The driver isn’t emailed about the change, so if it matters, send them a message too. There’s no way to withdraw a quote.
When can I see the driver’s phone number?
Once you’ve quoted on their job, choose View number on the job’s page. Not every driver adds one. You can no longer see it once the driver accepts another garage’s quote, or while the job is cancelled.
Each garage can view 5 new numbers a day, plus one more for each job it wins that day. A number you’ve already viewed doesn’t count again, and the count starts afresh at midnight.
Can I keep notes on a job?
Yes. Each job’s page has a note box for your garage. Drivers and other garages can’t see it.
When a driver accepts
What happens when my quote is accepted?
We email you, and the job moves to Won on your Dashboard. The job’s commission is taken from your credit balance. The job closes to new quotes, and the other garages’ quotes are declined. Those garages can no longer look up the driver’s phone number.
Then arrange a time with the driver: message them from the job’s page, or call them using View number.
What if the driver chooses another garage?
Your quote is declined and moves to Not won on your Dashboard. We don’t email you about it. You can still read your conversation with the driver, but neither of you can add to it, and you can no longer see their number.
What if Matchanic cancels the job?
Your quote moves to Not won on your Dashboard, marked “Job cancelled”. We don’t email you about it. While the job is cancelled, you can read your conversation with the driver, but neither of you can add to it, and you can’t see their number. If we reopen the job, your quote goes back under Quoted and can be accepted again.
How do I get a review?
Once a driver has accepted your quote, the job’s page has a Request a review button. Use it once you’ve done the work: it sends the driver a message with a link to leave a review. You can ask once per job.
Messages and emails
How do messages work?
Each quote has its own conversation with the driver, so you can message them once you’ve quoted. Open it from the job’s page or from Messages.
Which emails does Matchanic send me?
We email you about:
- a new job within your job radius (10 miles if you haven’t set one)
- a job Matchanic assigns to you
- a driver accepting your quote
- a new message you haven’t read (at most one email every 15 minutes for each conversation)
- a date being set for a job on your Calendar
You can switch any of these off on Notifications. Three kinds of email are always sent: the decision on your application, a notice if your account is disabled, and our decision on a commission refund you ask for.
New-job emails start once your account is approved. Your profile’s postcode and the job’s postcode both need to be ones we can place on the map.
If your login runs several garages, you get one email per job. It goes to the nearest of those garages whose job radius includes the job and whose new-job emails are on.
Automatic quotes for servicing
What are automatic quotes?
Quotes sent on your behalf, at prices you set in advance for routine servicing. When a servicing job is posted that matches a service and engine size you’ve priced, and it’s within your job radius, a quote at your price can be sent without you opening the job.
How do I set them up?
On Auto quotes, enter a price for each service and engine size you want to cover, and leave a box blank to skip it. Then switch automatic quotes on and save. Your profile also needs a postcode and a job radius.
Engine sizes come from the car’s DVLA record, or from its MOT record if DVLA doesn’t have one. Small is up to 1,000cc, Medium 1,001–1,600cc, Large 1,601–2,500cc and XL over 2,500cc.
Which jobs don’t get an automatic quote?
Automatic quotes aren’t sent for:
- jobs that aren’t servicing
- services or engine sizes you haven’t priced
- jobs outside your job radius
- cars whose engine size wasn’t found
- jobs with no postcode, or one we couldn’t place on the map
You can still quote on any of them yourself.
Can the driver tell it was automatic?
Not on the quote itself, which looks like one you typed. The message sent with it is the one set on Auto quotes (or our standard one if you haven’t set one), and the driver sees it in your conversation marked “Sent automatically with the quote”. The quote shows under Quoted on your Dashboard.
How do I turn them off?
Switch automatic quotes off on Auto quotes and save. Your prices are kept, and quotes already sent stay as they are.
Calendar
What’s on the Calendar?
Your Calendar lists jobs you’ve won that have a booking. A booking with no date yet is under “Needs scheduling”. The others are on the month grid, on their day. If a job you’ve won isn’t there, arrange a time with the driver by message or phone.
How do I set a date?
For a job on your Calendar, choose it, pick the date and time, add any notes, and save. You can change it the same way later. When a date is set, the driver sees it on their My jobs page, and we email you both unless either of you has switched off booking emails. The driver’s pages don’t show your notes, but they’re stored on the booking, so don’t treat them as private. For a note only you can read, use the Your note box on the job’s page.
Your profile and reviews
Who can see my profile?
Anyone who opens your profile’s link can see it, without logging in, from the moment you apply. Drivers reach it from your quotes. It shows:
- your business name (or, if you leave it blank, the name on your account) and photo
- your business type and years trading
- your address, opening hours and phone number
- your “About your garage” text and specialities
- your qualifications, with any certificate images
- your reviews, with their average rating
It doesn’t show your postcode, job radius or price list, though anyone can look up your job radius and the name on your account.
Qualifications are marked as added by the garage, because Matchanic doesn’t check them. Change your details on My profile.
Where do reviews come from?
Drivers can review you from their My jobs page once they’ve accepted your quote: one review per job, with 1 to 5 stars and an optional comment. You can reply to each one on Reviews, and your reply shows under it on your profile. Reviews can’t be edited or removed through the site.
Commission, credit and payment
Does Matchanic charge garages?
Applying, having a profile, seeing jobs and quoting cost nothing. When a driver accepts your quote, Matchanic takes a commission for the job from your credit balance. Nothing is taken for a quote the driver doesn’t accept.
How does commission work?
Each type of job has a fixed commission, set by Matchanic, plus VAT where it applies. Every job you can quote on shows its commission, and the quote form says how much will be taken from your credit balance if the driver accepts.
A quote keeps the commission it was sent with, even if the rate changes later. It’s taken when the driver accepts the quote, and that includes automatic quotes and quotes Matchanic enters for you.
Where’s my credit balance?
On Credit, with its history. If your login runs more than one garage, they all share one balance.
What happens if my balance goes below £0?
A commission is taken even if it takes your balance below £0. While it’s below £0, none of your garages can send new quotes, and automatic quotes aren’t sent for them. Quotes you’ve already sent stay open, and if a driver accepts one, its commission is taken as usual. Once your balance is back to £0 or more, you can quote again.
How do I top up?
You can’t top up by card on the site yet. For now, contact Matchanic to top up, and we’ll add the money to your balance once we’ve received your payment.
Can I get a commission refunded?
You can ask. On Refunds, which you reach from Credit, find the charge by the car’s registration, or pick it from your charges if the job had none, say why (the driver didn’t turn up, the job was cancelled, you were charged twice, or something else) and tell us what happened.
Someone at Matchanic looks at each request, and may refund all of the commission, part of it or none. We email you the decision, whatever your email settings, with our reason if we turn it down. An approved refund goes straight back into your credit balance.
How do I get paid for the work?
By the driver, directly, however you normally take payment. Matchanic doesn’t handle payment for the work, and the commission isn’t added to the driver’s price: it comes out of your credit balance. The driver expects to pay the price they accepted, so agree any extra work and its price with them before you do it.
